Certification: Appropriate CT Educator Certificate (305; 113; 112...etc)

 

Salary:  Salary and Benefits per the MFT contract

Middletown Public Schools is currently seeking a qualified Kindergarten Transition Teacher

JOB SUMMARY 
The Transitional Kindergarten (KPA) Classroom Teacher will provide an educational program and environment which promotes learning and personal growth for “ber” babies as they transition from preschool to kindergarten. The transitional kindergarten teacher will work collaboratively with the preschool and kindergarten supervisors to design high quality teaching and learning experiences for all students to further develop literacy, mathematical, and executive functioning skills; develop small group and individual lessons based upon the needs of each student; and prepare each student for their successful transition to kindergarten in 2025/26.  Our program will ensure children have fun while learning and is aimed at preparing them with social-emotional and academic skills in a positive learning environment where children develop a lifelong love of learning!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Demonstrates competence in content knowledge appropriate to the teaching position. 
  • Demonstrates competence in the domains of the early learning and development standards, developmental progressions planning and provide differentiated targeted instruction and personalized learning to students via various collaborative settings (1:1; small group; whole group).  
  • Uses strategies to deliver instruction that meets the multiple learning needs of students. 
  • Uses a variety of methods to monitor student learning. 
  • Demonstrates competence in classroom management. 
  • Participate in department, school, district and parent meetings. 
  • Present expectations that are appropriate to the child’s age and developmental level
  • Use a variety of activities and instructional methods (songs, stories, media, structured games, art, outdoor activities etc) to motivate and stimulate children’s abilities
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment by using relevant technology and a variety of learning materials and resources to support and differentiate instruction. 
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedure
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust teaching strategies. 
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development, and update all necessary records accurately and completely
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds. 
  • Design an appropriate room arrangement to support the goals of the program and the developmental level of the children in the classroom.
  • Communicating appropriately and professionally with colleagues and families
  • Build strong family partnerships by cultivating trusting relationships focused on learning
  • Recognize, honor and learn from families’ diverse cultural viewpoints, knowledge and experience, and integrate this knowledge into student learning.
  • Engage in high impact family engagement strategies such as Parent Teacher Home Visits (PTHV) and inviting families into class to volunteer or observe teaching and learning  
  • Communicate in two-way communication and ongoing exchange of information with families regarding student progress and concrete ways to support their child’s learning
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested 


OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess proper state certification and licensure for position 
  • Early childhood education or Kindergarten experience preferred
  • Engagement in professional growth and commitment to continuing education specific to the program
  • Fulfills professional responsibilities established by the school district
