Description: Aerospace and Manufacturing Teacher 

Location: 

Middletown High School 

Reports to:

Building Principal, PreK-12 STEAM Director, CTE Department Chairperson 

 

 

Broad Function:

This position delivers instruction to students in a variety of academic subjects.  The overall goal is to prepare students for life after graduation. The high school teacher evaluates their students’ skills and abilities in a subject and creates lesson plans to teach additional information.  Progress will be monitored through assignments and tests. When necessary, teachers must often adapt their plans to classroom size and work with individuals struggling to overcome special challenges. Additionally, the teacher must communicate with parents, supervise students inside and outside the classroom, and enforce school policy and class rules.

 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provides and prioritizes appropriate teaching methods, instruction, and assessment for each student’s needs to prepare them for life after graduation.
  • Prepares, in advance, appropriate lesson plans.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and application of subject matter.
  • Maintains accurate records, grades tests, conducts progressive evaluations, and compile reports as required by Connecticut Statutes, Regulations, and Board of Education policy.
  • Adapts lessons to changes in class size.
  • Establishes and maintains open communication and positive rapport with students, school personnel, and parents.
  • Participates in the completion of parent and student counseling.
  • Works with fellow teachers, directors, and administration in planning for instruction.
  • Participates in staff development and in-service training.
  • Establishes and maintains a learning environment conducive to teaching and learning; plan and implement effective use of classroom time.
  • Implement and enforce Board of Education and school-based mission, goals, policies, and procedures to uphold the regulations and meet student needs.
  • Works collaboratively with school counseling personnel and other special educators to assist students with individual needs.
  • Communicates curriculum and student-related information to students and parents effectively verbally and in writing.
  • At times, work with students outside of the contractual day for co-curricular events related to the Aerospace and Manufacturing curriculum and instruction.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Science or related field required.  
  • Must have a current Connecticut teacher’s certification (047 Technology Education, PK–12) or be enrolled in a qualifying alternate route to certification program by date of hire.

Preferred qualifications and experience include:

  • Employment in the Aerospace and Manufacturing industries;
  • Certifications and licensure related to Aerospace and Manufacturing or a willingness to obtain relevant certifications and licensure within an agreed upon timeline:
    • e.g., FAA Part 107 drone license, Advanced ground instructor, Multi-engine, Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license, and Institute of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (IAME) certification) Familiarity with Redbird Simulators and HAAS manufacturing machines.
  • Experience teaching related subjects;
  • Willingness to build community and industry partnerships to strengthen curriculum and experiential learning experiences.


Salary & Compensation:

Per MFT (Teacher's Union) Contract.

  • Ability to see and read objects closely, such as wiring, labels on equipment, reading/proofreading a report, using a computer monitor, filing and/or retrieving information from a filing system, and verifying the accuracy of financial information
  • Ability to hear normal sounds with background noise, as in using a telephone or radio, distinguish verbal communication, and communicate through speech, including using a radio
  • Ability to learn and acquire an understanding of new information, methodologies, and techniques and how they apply to school goals and operations
  • Memory adequate to perform tasks/assignments given over long periods
  • Ability to concentrate on a task for more than 60 minutes
